Count measurements track quantities of individual items like plants, fixtures, irrigation heads, and light fixtures. Each click adds one to your total count.

Starting a count measurement

Click the Count button in the canvas toolbar or press E on your keyboard. The Symbol panel appears where you can name your measurement, choose a marker color, and configure the dot appearance. Click Start to begin counting.

Placing count markers

Once in counting mode, click on each item you want to count. A colored marker appears at each location and the running total displays in the sidebar. Continue clicking until all items are counted, then press Escape or select another tool to exit.

Marker appearance

You can customize count markers in the color picker popover. Choose from three Dot shapes: circle, square, or triangle. Adjust the Dot size from 3 to 20 pixels. Different shapes help distinguish between symbol types when they overlap on the canvas.

Dimensional properties

Count symbols can include physical dimensions for material calculations. Set Diameter for circular items like plants, or use Length and Width for rectangular items. Note that setting both length and width overrides the diameter setting.

You can also add Wall height for vertical elements and Depth for items requiring volume calculations. These dimensions flow into estimates for accurate material ordering.

Managing markers

To remove individual markers, access the More tools menu in the canvas toolbar and select Remove Dots. Click on any marker to delete it and decrease the count.

To remove multiple markers at once, select Negative Rectangle from the More tools menu. Draw a rectangle around the markers you want to remove and all markers within the rectangle are deleted.

Merging symbols

To combine multiple count symbols, hold Ctrl/Cmd and click to select them in the sidebar. A floating bar appears with a Merge button. Clicking it opens a dialog where you name the merged layer and optionally delete the originals.

Visibility controls

Hover over a count symbol in the sidebar and click the eye icon to toggle visibility. Hidden symbols remain in your takeoff but do not display on the canvas. Enable Hide annotations on hover from the More tools menu to temporarily hide all markers when hovering over the canvas, making it easier to see the underlying plan.

Tips

Use descriptive names including size specifications like "15-gallon Olive Tree" rather than just "Tree." Set diameter or dimensions on plant symbols for nursery orders. Create separate symbols for different sizes or types even if they look similar on plans.
