Layers

Organize your measurements across separate layers for better visibility and control.

Layers are separate drawing surfaces within a takeoff. Every measurement you create belongs to a layer, letting you isolate different scopes of work, trades, or revisions on the same plan without overlap. Think of them as transparent sheets stacked on top of your plan.

Default layer

Every project starts with a Default layer. New measurements land here unless you switch to a different layer first. The default layer cannot be renamed or deleted, and it is always listed first in the layer dropdown.

Creating layers

Open the layer dropdown in the takeoff sidebar and click New layer. Enter a name in the dialog and click Create. The new layer becomes active immediately, so any measurements you draw from that point belong to it.

Switching layers

Click the layer dropdown to see all available layers. Select a layer by name to make it active. A checkmark indicates the currently active layer. Only the active layer's measurements appear on the canvas and in the sidebar list.

Viewing all layers

Select All layers at the top of the layer dropdown to display every layer's measurements at once. This is useful for seeing the full picture across trades or work phases. Selecting a specific layer exits this mode.

Renaming layers

Hover over a non-default layer in the dropdown to reveal the options menu (three-dot icon). Click Rename, enter the new name, and click Save.

Merging layers

Merging combines measurements from multiple layers into a single new layer. Open the layer dropdown and click Merge layers.... Select two or more layers in the dialog -- the numbered badges indicate stacking order from bottom to top. Click Preview to see the combined result on the canvas.

A floating bar appears at the bottom of the canvas during preview. Click Merge to proceed, or Cancel to discard. In the confirmation dialog, enter a name for the merged layer. Optionally check Delete original layers after merge to clean up the source layers. Click Merge to finish.

Deleting layers

Open the options menu on any non-default layer and click Delete. A confirmation dialog warns that all measurements on that layer will be permanently removed. If the deleted layer was active, the view switches back to the default layer.

Layers and measurements

Each measurement, symbol, and annotation is tied to exactly one layer. When you switch layers, the sidebar filters to show only that layer's symbols and measurements. Merging layers re-parents all selected measurements onto the newly created layer, preserving their positions and properties.
