The home screen is the first thing you see after signing in. It centers on an AI chat box and surrounds it with cards for your projects and leads. This is different from a project workspace: the home screen works across your whole organization, while a workspace focuses on one project's plans and measurements. See Understanding the interface for the in-project layout.
Ask the AI anything
The box at the top is your AI omnibox. Type a question or request in the Ask anything field and send it to start a new conversation. Your message opens a fresh chat where Exa can help you find projects, create new ones, or answer questions.
The heading above the box depends on where you are. A brand-new organization that hasn't run a takeoff yet sees Upload your plans with the subtext AI will measure them automatically. Once you've run your first takeoff, the heading switches to How can I help? and an AI employee picker appears beneath it.
When the How can I help? heading is showing and your organization has more than one AI employee, the picker shows who you're chatting with. Click it to switch. Each option lists the AI's name and role, and your choice is remembered for next time. With a single AI, the picker just shows that AI's name. If no AI is set up yet, you'll see a prompt to add one in members (admins) or to ask an admin.
Upload plans for an instant takeoff
Click Upload plans below the omnibox to run an instant takeoff. Select your plan files, and Exayard creates a new project, processes the plans, and opens a chat where the AI measures them automatically. The placeholder changes to Describe everything you want to measure so you can tell Exa exactly what you need before sending.
This is the fastest way to go from a fresh plan to measurements. To learn how the AI identifies measurable elements, see AI-powered takeoffs.
Resume recent conversations
When you have past conversations, a History button (clock icon) appears in the omnibox toolbar. Open it to see your recent in-app chats and click any one to jump back in. Conversations tied to a project reopen inside that project; others open as a standalone chat.
For more on how chats work, see Asking questions about plans.
Projects card
The Projects card lists your recent projects. Click a project to open its workspace, or click the + button to create a new one. When you have no projects yet, the card shows a Create a project button to get started. See Creating your first project for details.
Leads card
The Leads card shows visitor leads captured by the AI agent on your website. Each lead displays the visitor's name or email, the services they asked about, an estimated cost when available, and the date. Click a lead to open it as a project.
If no widget is installed, the card shows a Set up agent button instead. Use it to install the agent and start capturing leads. See Setting up the widget. Once a widget is installed, a gear icon appears on the card that opens your widget settings.
