Sections

Organize your estimates into logical sections.

Written by Sarah Chen

Exayard provides several ways to organize your estimates: folders for grouping takeoff symbols, collections (template packs) for grouping reusable templates, and cost type sections within the line item editor. Together, these keep large projects manageable.

Folders

Folders group takeoff symbols within a project. Create one with New folder, then move symbols into it with the Move to... action in a symbol's menu. Folders support nesting, so you can build a hierarchy like Site Work > Hardscape > Pavers. Rename or delete a folder from its menu.

Folders carry through to the reports view. The Line items by folder report shows subtotals for each folder's line items. This gives you cost breakdowns by scope area without extra setup.

Collections

Collections (also called template packs) are groups of takeoff symbol templates stored at the organization level. Each collection has a name and color, and contains reusable symbol templates with pre-configured line items.

In the Line items panel toolbar, the collection dropdown lets you filter the table to show only line items from a specific collection. Select All templates to see everything, or pick a collection to focus on one scope area. Create a new collection with the New template pack option in the dropdown, and rename or delete one from its menu.

Cost type sections

Within a symbol's line item editor, items are automatically grouped into sections by cost type: Material, Labor, Equipment, Subcontract, and Other. Each section header shows the cost type and its subtotal.

Describe what you need in the input bar at the top to have AI generate items into the right sections. To add an item manually, click the + button in a section header. The item is created in that section, so the section you choose sets its cost type.

Drag items within a section to reorder them. You cannot drag items between sections, since each item's type determines where it belongs. An item's cost type is fixed in the symbol editor; to change it and move the item to another section, edit the Type column in the Line items spreadsheet.

Grouping in reports

The Reports panel groups your estimate through predefined reports. Pick one from the report selector at the top; each report groups line items a different way:

Report

Line items by SKU

Grouped by product SKU

Line items by folder

Line items by cost type

Grouped by material, labor, equipment, etc.

Each group shows a summary row with total cost and total price. Switch reports to analyze your estimate from different angles.

Type filtering

The Line items panel toolbar includes a Type filter. Click it to show only line items of a specific cost type. This is useful when you want to review all material costs or all labor costs across every symbol in the project.

Combine the collection filter with the type filter to narrow the view further. For example, pick a collection and the Material type to see only that collection's material line items.
