Asphalt area-to-tonnage compacted density
Hot-mix asphalt is paid by the ton, but taken off as plan area × compacted thickness, so a density is needed to convert.

B

Bend / direction-change length allowance
Each 90° change of direction consumes more conduit than the orthogonal corner-to-corner sum implies (the bend has a radius).
Board both sides of the partition (×2 area from one length)
A typical interior partition is boarded on BOTH faces, so a single traced length × height must be multiplied by 2 to get total board/finish area.
Board sheet size and coverage for converting area to sheets
Board count = net area ÷ sheet coverage.
Board waste / scrap allowance
Net board area is grossed up for cut-around scrap, breakage and offcuts: ~10% for simple open rooms, 12-15% for cut-heavy/many-corner/many-opening work, more for radius/coffered/soffit work.
Bond-pattern unit correction (headers add units)
Header courses turn bricks 90° so more units fill the same face area.
Bottom-of-cladding clearance line (grade / roof / deck)
Cladding does not run to grade; install specs require a clearance gap (fiber-cement: 6 in to finished grade, 1-2 in to roofs/decks/paths).
Boundary/edge openings always deducted (no threshold)
The void-size threshold only protects voids in the INTERIOR of a measured region.

C&D debris volume-to-weight conversion factor
Disposal is billed by weight but estimated by volume, so a density conversion factor is needed.

Cable routing geometry (right-angle along pathway vs straight-line)

Carpet pile/nap direction & seam orientation
All carpet strips must run the same pile direction or seams show; pile lay toward the entrance is ideal.
Carpet/sheet roll-width fill & seam-layout allowance
Broadloom carpet (12/15 ft rolls) and sheet vinyl (6/9/12 ft) are sold by the running yard/metre off the roll; the order is a fill problem governed by CRI 104 seam-layout rules, not a flat %.
Ceiling area unit of measure
Area unit follows the regional measurement system: m² in RICS/metric regions, square feet (or squares ÷100) in the US.
Ceiling plan boundary (interior finished wall face)
A ceiling is a finish trade, so the membrane/grid runs from finished wall face to finished wall face, the same net plan polygon as the finished floor, bridged straight across doorways.
